Santa Anita is now the permanent home for the world championship of thoroughbred racing, starting November 2011.Due to the location of the race, investors and sponsors are looking to make an estimated profit of $14-60 million dollars because of the fact that there is no need to find a new location every year. The Los Angles area alone offers many world-class entertainment and cultural experiences to the spectator. The climate, atmosphere and other attractions alone make this location an ideal place to hold such a grand event. The international racing community has demonstrated over the last two Breeders’ Cup events that it brings only the best horses to Santa Anita. In addition to that, Santa Anita will be going back to its natural surface this summer. This will increase the track-racing lifespan and also be beneficial for both the horses and the jockeys. Going back to a natural surface will decrease the amount of injury that the horse might have endured while racing on a synthetic track. The 2009 Breeders Cup was one of the few successes in a year that was devastating to our industry. By stabilizing the location, this I believe will only bring more revenue to the event. I hope that in the future Korea can hold this same kind of event on an international scale. It would be interesting to see Korea holding a Asian version of the Breeders Cup for all of the surrounding countries. As you know a breeder’s cup horse doesn’t come along everyday.
